Word hesitates when trying to save to folder other than default

Greetings

I have had this problem with WordXP and am now having it with Word 2003.

When I try to save a Word document (or even Excel, PowerPoint or others of the Office Suite), I click on File -> Save and the default dialogue box comes up. When I press the arrow to go to another drive or directory, the application hesitates for about 30-45 seconds before it responds to the click event, dropdown combo box.

I thought that upgrading to Office 2003 would get rid of the hesitation, but it doesn't. Also, this hesitation is not platform specific either. It does the same thing to PIII machines as well as AMD based machines

What is the solution to this problem? Office 2K had this same problem with NT for a while, but after an update to the OS, the problem went away. To say the least, this is an annoying problem with performance

Please help

Regard

Bill

My solution:

Pointed out on another word newsgroup, is that we had a mapped netwrok drive
that we were not logged into / connected to . Once we fixed that, the word
save problem went away.
