I have users in a remote location running off of Terminal
Services. The major app. is MS Word. I recently
installed Word XP. Every now and then, usually when they
are a few pages into the document, word will completly
freeze up. Their only option is to end task, which causes
them to lose the entire document and start over. I cannot
find the cause of this. No messages in Event Viewer.
Help!

Is Citrix Metaframe installed? This was a problem that one of their
service packs fixed.

I've seen a similar issue with Word XP
and Office XP SP3 seemed to fix. YMMV but
symtoms seem the same. Actually .. I remember
it would be one or two remote users who use
MS Word for transcription who would bring the server
pretty much to a halt with Winword.exe at 100% when
I looked at Taskman (showing all users). As soon as
I logged off the user, the server returned to normal.
Since the install of Office XP SP3, I have not seen
the problem again. I initially thought it was a profile
issue because it always affected the same users.

Good luck.

Make sure to disable background spelling & grammar checking which is known to
use many extra CPU cycles, and turn off fru-fru menu animations.

Make sure you're Office installation is up-to-date and was installed while
the TS was in install mode (change user /install).
