Word files have become password protected

Hi folks: Here's a strange problem.

I created a series of documents in MSWord for my employer.

On Friday they swapped out my desktop computer for a laptop computer.

They transferred all my files by copying them over a network to a server,
then loading them from the server onto my laptop.

Now when I use these files I get a message to say they are password
protected. In a Password dialog, the message is "(document name) is reserved
by CD-PMO".

My desktop was running Win2000, the laptop WinXP.

The desktop version of MSWord I don't know, and that which runs on the
laptop is MSWord 2002.

Anyone know why these MSWord files have become password protected?
What does "...is reserved by..." mean?

BTW. The property attributes for these documents does not show them as
Read-only.

Not an expert, but;
I've never experienced this, perhaps one of the experts here will be
aware of the situation, but

does the "CD-PMO" mean anything to you (i.e. something unique to your
organization)?
Does your IT dept have any idea (assume IT is the "they" you refer to)?

CD-PMO is a dept that created the document's template. For several weeks now
I have used the template without problem. Then moving the files from my
desktop mc thu the network to a server, then moving the files from the
server to my laptop caused the problem. It's just inconvenient because I
can overcome the password block quite easily (withoiut knowing the pw).

The message you provided doesn't sound like a Word prompt. If you can
overcome the password dialog then I'd say it's a network password
rather than a Word password.

This appears to be a network/permissions problem. If it was a Word password
issue you would not be able to access the documents as the encryption Word
uses is thorough. Have a chat with your IT people. They are the people who
should know how your file system is configured.

Thanks for all the responses. It most likely was a network or remote server
permissions issue. After initially declaring the sky is falling I opened the
security dialog, deleted the password that was there, saved the files, and
the problem went away.
