WORD DOES NOT RECOGNIZE MY BROWSER

Word 2000 has been working fine until recently. Either I have done something
to mess it up or recent "Office" downloads have. When I try to open a Word
document without opening Word 2000 first, I get a pop up window. The window
states "Your selection could not be looked up. You must have a web browser
installed and a network connection to use look up." First of all I am not
trying to look up anything on the web, I am just trying to open a Word
document. I am using I.E. 6 and have made no changes to it. How to I tweek
Word 2000 so I do not get this pop window?

files. Word files do not open in the desired version of Word when you
double-click them in Windows Explorer, or when opening them from the Desktop
or Explorer, a series of messages appear claiming that the file cannot be

There is nothing in the "target box". There is nothing on the "Shortcut"
dialog box. It is all grayed out.
