word document will not open

I have one word document that will not open. It'll look like it will open,
then closes. All other office applications and other word documents open.

What do you mean by it looks like it will open but closes?

If this is Word 2002 or 2003, try Open and Repair. Otherwise, treat it as a
corrupt document (see http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/CorruptDoc.htm).
