Word docs - probably a stupid question

Hi,

I have a FrontPage site with a number of word docs. When someone visits the
site and clicks on one of the links to a word doc they (after a few seconds
but usually after the word doc has opened) are asked for a username and
password. Clicking cancel works fine as there is no username / password
required.

Can anyone tell me how to prevent this username / password dialog from
appearing ? I dont think this is a FrontPage problem directly, but I have
went to other sites where this does not happen...

TIA

Are those users running Office 2000?

and here is the link to download Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1a
(SR-1a) which will fix the problem for Office 2000 users:

Some yes and some no.

I also have no way of knowing what other users around the word are using...

It happens in both 2000 and 2003 but thats all I have tested.

For those that are running Office 2000, they need to install the Service
Pack. You might want to add that info to your site.

The SR must be installed on any affected computers. Those using Office 2003
may have upgraded and have some remnants of Office 2000 remaining.
