word docs. being not going through.

When I send word documents to some people they don't get
the document, but they get a winmail.dat or win.dat or
something like that as an attachment. They said that they
have word on their system. I thought it was just with
sending to people jobs with mail servers but it sometimes
does it on personal home pc's. I get all types of docs.
on my system with no problem so why can't they?
 
Try changing the message format to Plain or HTML, typically this is caused
by the message format being in Rich Text.
 
Thanks I'll try that. As a matter of fact I do have it
set for rich text. If it's not to much trouble, why is
that?
 
Rich text is a format that intended for Outlook to Outlook only, certain
special items like Task requests, appointments etc don't work unless sent in
Rich Text. A lot of non Outlook clients will read rich text as long as its
an email only (because it basically converts the rich text to plain) but put
an attachment on it and email clients (especially Outlook Express) get all
sulky :)
