My granddaughter visited and now all documents come up with dots between
letters, paragraph symbols all through document, etc. How do i reset
Word (2000) back to the way it came from the factory?

Thanks

Ron

Ah! Your granddaughter knows how to use a wordprocessor correctly! Click on
the ShowAll command on the toolbar (clue: it's the backwards facing P
character called a pilcro).

Terry,

Tried your suggestion. Didn't work. Toggled on and off but no change of view of
document.
This happens on all documents opened now, including ones created long before
this problem started. I don't like the idea of not seeing font changes I make
on the screen. Any other ideas?

Go to Tools | Options | View and clear the checks for all the boxes under
"Formatting marks." You're not seeing font changes? Check to make sure you
don't have "Draft font" enabled.

Suzanne,

Thanks for the help. Almost all boxes on View were checked. Unchecked the
formatting ones and the draft font one. Seems to have cleared what I have run
into so far. Do notice that sample document (Document 1) template comes up with
arial font for a couple of lines then something called Tahoma font after that.
Any idea where all this came from? Did my granddaughter hit a certain
combination of keys to produce this? Can it be reversed by those same keys?

Thanks again

Ron

It sounds like you need the whole treatment: see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/BlankDocNotBlank.htm.

As a diagnostic, select the text in the document (or template) and press
Ctrl+Spacebar. If this does not return the text to your usual font, then the
font of Normal style has been changed. Go to Format | Font, select the
desired font, and click the Default... button. For more, see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/CustomizeNormalTemplate.htm

The normal.dot has been dirtied. See the following FAQ for more information:

Suzanne,

Thanks for the help. I deleted the normal.dot file and started from scratch. Had
to put in a couple of settings to get it back to where it would resemble our
normal view.

Still would like to know how it got messed up, but may never know.
