Word causing computer freeze

I have W98SE and Word 2000 and when I try to open Word the rectangular box
appears on the screen but everything just freezes. I have tried the repair
function, total remove and re-install, virus scan but every time the same
problems.

Any ideas appreciated.

What kind of processor do you have?
Is it a pentium (I II III IV)?
How many rams?
Is this a new install of Word 2000?
How long has this been happening?
