Word always launches with same document

I haven't seen this myself but my neighbor said that whenever he launches
Word (not sure what version he has but his has Win XP Home on his pc) the
same document always comes up. He can try to click new document but again
the same document comes up.

Is there a setting somewhere which makes this happen and how do I get to it?
