I created a document in Work 2000 and saved the document
on a floppy disk. I had to make modifications and was on
a computer that only has Word '97. I was able to make
these modifications and saved back to same disk. Now when
I try to open this disk, the computer that has Word '97
says that I do not have access to the disk and if I try to
open the disk in Word 2000, it says that there is no disk
or that the disk has to be formated. Can anyone help me
retrieve the information on the disk?
thanks

I had a similar problem when moving files back and forth (via floppy)
between a Win98 system and an XP system.
The file initially created on an XP Sys and then modified on the 98 Sys,
would not show in XP.
It seems that 98 had corrupted the XP FAT.

The file was still there however and could be view as present via the
command prompt.
To resolve the issue and retrieve the file on XP, I just burned the file to
a CD. Then copied the file to my hard drive, From then on, everything was ok

I'm not exactly sure, but I guess at some point you were using Word 2000
or Word 97 to write/read direction to/from the floppy disk.

This is strongly not recommended. Doing so will pretty much guarantee at
some point the floppy and the files will get corrupted.

Use the floppy to copy the *.doc file between computers, but always open
and save the *.doc directly to the hard disk ... then copy to floppy
for moving.

As to how to retrieve the information on the disk ... about all I can
suggest us to try to run chkdsk on that floppy.
