Friend of mine at work said he had a CD with Word 97 on it for free.
Can anyone confirm the name of the CD coverdisk (perhaps in UK) and if
so, is there a download link for it please as he no longer has the CD
and can't remember where to get it.
Thanks

That only can be a joke, read the end user licence (EULA).

I think he may be confusing MS Word '97 with Lotus 97 Word Processor module
( From the Lotus Office Suite) which I remember being given away with a
couple of magazines. MS Word has never been given away to my recollection.
This is not the Microsoft Way, even with older versions.

,i think your friend is talking about the lotus office program,it has been on
a few coverdiscs,ms would NEVER give away word for free.

Aaah! Thanks for the clarification - that sound more like it! I didn't
think it was free because I still have Office 97 Pro and it is fine for
my use.

Will let him know.

I think you're looking for a IBM/Lotus word processor-WordPro. MS word
hasn't been covermounted at all In Australia, PC User in 2002 supplied a
full version of their smartsuite.

i've *never* heard of commercial ms products given for free, not even many
years they've been dismissed. if any can be found, i dont think they're
legal.

ms give lots of programs for free, but that's an utterly different matter.

Outlook 98 is one that springs to mind

No, you pay for that one. You pay in security holes, viral
infections, and incessant patches.

and system resources.
i tried it on my old laptop, and it ate 35% of a machine with 64 mb ram.
i guess they gave it away upon intel's request :)
