Hi,

When I edit my previously saved documents in WORD and then click the X, many
times the programme will not close and this message comes up.

'Microsoft Office Word'

'Word cannot complete the save due to a file permission error.'

The only way I can close the document is to switch the computer off and back
on again. Unfortunately all the work that I had done prior to closing the
file is not saved. Does anyone have a solution to this please?

Thanks - Susan

When the problem arises I also have just found out that a TMP file comes up
in my documents. Appreciate any help please.

Thanks - Susan.

Instead of clicking the red X, which closes the program, click the SAVE
button near the top left first, then After it saves you can close it.

Thanks, "here@home", have just tried what you suggested and the error message
has popped up again and I have had to shut down and re-start the computer
again.
So no luck. Thanks for your help anyway
Susan.

Right-click the Word executable, click properties.
Go the "Compatibility" tab.
Down towards the bottom, "Privilege Level",
check "Run this program as an administrator".

Michael,

Could you please tell me what a Word executable is? I have right clicked the
Word icon and gone into properties but can't see a compatibility tab.

Thanks - Susan.

Okay. Right-click the Word icon again.
This time, go to the "Shortcut" tab.
You'll see "Advanced", click it.
Check "Run as administrator".

-Michael

O.K. MICHAEL have just done that but the box will not let me tick it. It's
sort of fogged over and it's the other box that has the tick in it.
Thanks - Susan.

Well, alright.

Type, "winword" into the Start Menu's search bar.
Right-click the result at the top, click "Properties".

Now, go to the "Compatibility" tab.
"Privilege Level"
Check, "Run this program as an administrator"

Word 2007 should work fine on Vista. Where on your diskare you saving
the file?

Hello Michael,

Have done that and checked the box, applied and o.k.d it and then went in to
it again to see if the setting had held at that, and it has. I will now go
into one of my Word documents. (One that I know won't let me shut down when I
have performed two or three particular tasks on it) Will let you know how I
get on.

Thank you for your time - Susan.

Michael,

Have just opened my files and all I get now on each one is a blue blank
screen, so have gone right back and unchecked the box, it's the only way I
know to get back into my files.

Thanks Again - Susan,

Susan,

You're welcome. I wish we could get this fixed.
I'm almost out of ideas.

Go into "All Programs" in the Start Menu.
Find the Microsoft Office folder. Then look in the
Microsoft Tools folder for "Microsoft Office Diagnostics"
Run it and see what it does.

The only other option is to try and reinstall Office.

I'll be out the rest of the day, post back and
let me know what happens. I will check back later.

Oh, are these newly created documents? Or, did you
import them from another computer or a disc, maybe?
Is this on a clean install of Vista or an Upgrade install?
Clean install of Office or an upgrade from Office 2003?

Take care,

Michael

Hello Again Michael,

I have done the diagnotic test that you suggested and there are no problems
showing up at all with that. The files in question have been imported from my
X.P. computer to my Vista computer. My Vista computer is new and came with
the Vista programme ready installed. It's interesting to note that I have had
no problem closing the programme after editing text when I have been dealing
with common or garden text.
It's when I use the Word Art! The problem occurs with the same paragraphs of
text each time. Strangely when I am editing SMALL text and have used the
Shape fill and Shape outline, the programme will then not Close down or Save.
Anyway I'm off to bed now. It's bedtime here in the U.K.

Thanks for your help - Susan.

I have been having precisely this problem this week on my laptop, although my setup is different--I'm running Windows XP professional and Office 2000. Last Friday I installed the trial version of Kaspersky anti-virus--could that be linked to this problem? In any case, when I do the winword search and go to winword.exe, properties, compatibility, there is not a privilege level option. Please advise.

there is a very simple solution if you are on a network. just save all your .doc files on the hard disk of another system on the network. you will not get those error messages. don't ask me why, i myself found this out by fluke !!
