Word 2007 won't open .doc file

I have Office 2007. Whenever I receive an email with a .doc attachment, my
comp wants to open it as a picture instead of a document.

It is bad practice to open attachments directly from e-mail attachments, but
your basic problem is that the file format DOC is associated with the wrong
