I'm soon going to have to get a new computer, probably with Windows 7. Does
Microsoft Office-and especially Word-2007 work well under Windows 7? Any
advice would be appreciated.

Thank you!

It does, (but you are then faced with the challenge of learning the MS
Office "ribbon").

If your application skills are reasonable the "challenge" is over pretty
quickly...

Hmm, you would (of course) have to learn the ribbon even if you were running
Office 2007 on Windows Vista or XP.

The ribbon is something I've had to use under XP too, and I hate it...

One big difference you will see in Word 2007 running under Windows 7 as
opposed to Windows XP is that there is no Places Bar (which I find extremely
useful). Instead, there is a sidebar for "Favorites" that's sort of a subset
of the Folders pane, I guess. I haven't used Windows 7 enough to get
comfortable with this, and I definitely miss the Places Bar.

I know what you mean! Many of the changes I've encountered in later versions
of my favorite programs seem to leave out the very things I find most
useful.

The advantage of the "sidebar" containing "favorites" over the old
places bar is that a) it's a doddle to add folders to the favorites,
(you just drag the folder to the favorites) and b) AFAICS there's no
limit to the number of entries IN the "favorites" section...

There's no limit to the number of Places on the Places Bar, either. I
suppose I'll get used to the Favorites, but my first impression is that it
contains a lot of folders that are of no relevance to Word/Office.
