Word 2007 - I have problems changing the .25 hanging indent on List Number
styles to .5 hanging indent. However I modify the style, it always goes
back to .25 again. I tried removing the tabs to prevent it, and it still
goes back to .25 hanging. How can I permanently make List Number style hang
at .5?

Thanks

Are you making sure that you change the indent in the Numbering dialog
rather than Paragraph? Numbering trumps Paragraph when it comes to left,
first-line, and hanging indents.

Using word 2007, the Numbering dialog doesn't have an option to change the
hanging indent. It only gives me Number Format and Alignment. Actually, it
says NONE when I modify the List Number style, but even if I change it to
another scheme, there's no way to change the Indent. Thanks for your help
in this problem.

Workaround: double-click the number to highlight it. Change the indent on
the ruler using the mouse to drag the markers. When the indent/alignment is
correct, right-click on the style and choose 'Update XXX style to match the
selection'.

Yes, your workaround worked ok. However, where is the 2003 Customize
dialog? And why, even in my Heading styles, does the Define New Multilevel
List display NONE. I should see the my multilevel list for my Heading
styles. My simple problem with the List Number has led me to another
problem with the Heading styles.

It doesn't have "Indent at" and "Tab space after."

I'm not sure and I don't have Word 2003 around at the moment , so I have no
way to investigate. I agree that it seems wrong from your description. I
believe that List Styles are stored in the registry for Office 2003, so I
wonder if the Word Data Key is corrupt. You could try deleting the Word Data
Key: Word will regenerate a new key when you restart it.
