How do I set Word to line spacing properly?

I want to type in
Name
Addess
City etc.

I have changed the spacing to 1" but Word 2007 when I hit the enter
key after typing in the name drops down 2 spaces it seems so I get

Name

Addess

City etc.

Spacing worked fine in Office XP.

thanks

Hi David,

This problem occurs because the "Normal" style in Word 2007 by default
places a space between paragraphs (which is different than line spacing which
has to do with spaces between lines). The lines of the address are treated as
paragraphs.

On the Home tab in the Styles section, change the selection to "No spacing."

You could also edit the "Normal" style so there are no spaces between
paragraphs.

Was with you up to here, Doug, but couldn't help interjecting that there are
a number of well-respected users out there who would argue against editing
the normal Paragraph Style. Doing so can have serious repercussions since a
number of other styles are based on normal as well as other
considerations... especially for anyone not thoroughly knowledgeable about
Styles & how they work.

It might be better to apply a *different* style to the paras involved - in
fact Word 2007 has one built-in by the name of No Space - or creating a
Custom Style that carries the preferred attributes or even a customized
template.

Another option might be just to press Shift+Enter to create a line break in
successive-line items such as addresses, rather than pressing Enter.

Thanks for the reponse. I don't understand competely how to edt the
normal style but I am found 2 other solutions:
1.Home, Change Style, Word 2003
2.Page Layout, Spacing, After (change to 0)

thanks for the response.

thanks for the response.

I couldn't find a no space style so I am using the Word 2003 style
which works.

Shift+enter doesn't look right for me.

Thanks for the resonse.

Thanks Bob, but I edit the Normal paragraph style all the time.

You might go back and read my first post, however, and see that that was my
second suggestion. My first was to use the "No Space" (sic) style you
mentioned.

I'm glad you found another option.

I am surprised you don't see the "No Spacing" option. It should be between
"Normal" and "Heading 1" in the Style section of the Home tab.
