Word 2007 as attachments to emails

I had to "Save As Word97-2003" two documents, originally typed in Word 2007,
attached to an email sent via Outlook Express and resend them, as no-one was
able to read them. They appeared as grey screen. I have checked with PC and
Mac-user friends and none of them could read anything in Word 2007. What
else is going to go wrong with this programme! Oh dear, I think this is a
rant. Sorry; I think I shall bin my disc and count the money lost, and
look for an old Word programme to download and thus be able to sit at peace
in front of my computer. Thanks for "listening" - Sheila

Word 2007 saves files as 'docx' by default and, as such, these cannot be
opened in earlier versions of Microsoft Word. If the people you are sending
the attachments to only have pre-2007 versions of Word then your only option
is to save in Word 97-2003 format. I'm not sure whether the free Word viewer
from Microsoft will read Word 2007 documents, not having tried it.

As for anything else going wrong with the Word 2007 program, it isn't
actually a problem. Microsoft have simply changed the way Word saves its
files. I certainly haven't experienced any problems with Word or the Office
2007 Suite in general.

Thank you for telling me why the attachments couldn't be read by others
(interestingly last time I updated my Word - some years back now - I didn't
have this problem, somehow those to whom I sent attachments never had a
problem opening and reading them!)
In regard to your not having any problems with Word or Office 2007, don't
you find it rather odd that French was chosen as the default language for
Spellcheck in Outlook Express and that the answer given to what to do is to
download another company's programme? Also, and so far despite many
attempts, I am still unable to send an email directly from a Word document as
I used to pre-2007. (See my query "Sending email from Word 2007" dated
06/27/07)
But thanks again for responding, Sheila

Hey John,

Can you figure this one for me?

Looked at a users PC last night, he was trying to send a Word 2007
document via the "Click on the Attachment Envelope OR "Ctrl + F + D +
click Email"; the email application was brought up just fine and
showed the document as an attachment, but when he clicked send, it
told him he had no access to the temporary file location where the
document was located. I am busting my head on this one..seems the
user does not have access to the temp file location.

Any thoughts?

Christian
