Word 2003 - Normal.dot global template

Everytime I exit Word I get this error, "Changes have been made that
affect the global template, Normal.dot. Do you want to save those
changes?". It has Yes, No, and Cancel buttons. This pops up every
single time Word is opened and closed even if nothing is added or
changed within the document.

If I click "No" the programme closes and reports a problem saying it
needs to close and offers to recover my work.

If I click cancel the prompt disappears but the programme doesn't
close

If I click "Yes" the programme closes down and reports a problem and
offers to recover my work (as per saying No)

I tried changing the setting by going to Tools - options - save and
unchecked the "offer to save normal.dot". All that happens is the
programme closes down and reports the same problem as above.

I am using Office 2003 and XP Home Edition and have tried reinstalling
and repairing twice but the problem still remains. I have even
uninstalled and installed Office 2000 and the same problem occurred. I
have tried renaming normal.dot but the problem persists.

Please help

Thanks

Many thanks for your help but I have just found the cure - my
anti-virus programme. When I uninstalled it everything was OK

Many thanks for taking the time to help with my problem

Kind regards
