Is it really possible to view facing pages in Word 2003? I've seen a lot of incorrect information (such as that Reading View shows facing pages) as well as consistent advice that you need to turn on either Mirror Margins and/or Different Right and Left Headers/Footers before Word will enable viewing facing pages - but no advice of how to actually view the facing pages.

There is no problem making Word show two pages side by side -- but they aren't FACING pages because word always shows the wrong two pages!

Word shows pages
1 2
3 4
5 6
etc

FACING Pages would be
_ 1
2 3
4 5
6 7
etc

It would be nice to be able to edit while viewing facing pages, but I'd happily settle for even getting facing pages to work in print preview.

The only way I can see of doing anything remotely like this in Word is going to File>Page Setup>Layout>Different odd&even.....and then using Print Preview>Multiple Pages>1x2 Pages, which will then give you page 1 on its own, then 2&3 together etc...........you can edit from there and then close Print Preview and then save the document in Word.

Apart from that I can help no further.

If Ady's suggestion doesn't work, why not add a blank page as the first page in the document (just press CTRL+Enter on the first line). This should bump them out of sync and allow you to view them like that, although it is a bit of a dirty method.

That would be adequate if I could get Word to actually do that. I have the document set for mirror margins and different right/left headers/footers but the two page display still goes
1 2
3 4
5 6
etc

Works fine with my Word 2003 - maybe try not using mirror margins and different left/right headers/footers?

In reading mode left clicks on the top and bottom scroll bar arrows move the left hand screen number down and up by 1. This does not give the pair: blank - 1 but does give all the other adjacent pairs of pages, including the facing ones.

I never did find out exactly what was causing the problem but eventually I deleted the first of several section breaks in the document - which was the point where the problem was giving me fits trying to format the document to get the proper left/right pages. AFTER deleting that one section break everything else worked properly - including viewing facing pages.
