Is this a laptop? With a touchpad? Either keep your hands off it or reduce
the sensitivity.

I have just installed Office 2003, and when I am typing in Word, sometimes
the cursor moves up three or four lines on its own, and I find myself typing
in the middle of the preceding text instead of at the end. I am not
accidentally hitting the ctrl key. I have not had this problem with previous
versions.

Thanks.

If you don't use the touchpad, I'd say reduce the sensitivity to zero. I
don't use a laptop, so this is hearsay, but a lot of users assess this
problem as being due to brushing the touchpad with their thumbs while
typing.

Thanks for the answer. I do have a touchpad, although I don't use it. I use
a regular mouse, but maybe I've been accidentally touching the pad. I'll
check this out. Coincidentally, I installed Office 2003 at the same time
that I got a new laptop, my first with a touchpad.

Thanks again.

That's exactly what it was. I don't have the option to reduce the
sensitivity, so I tried to train myself not to touch it, but I ended up
shutting it off. I never use the touchpad anyway. I prefer a regular mouse.

Thanks again.

I don't have a laptop, but whenever I've tried to use one, trying to
accomplish anything with a touchpad has driven me crazy. I suppose it's a
learned skill like any other, but it's not one I aspire to learn. If I ever
get a laptop, the first accessory/peripheral I'll get for it will be a
mouse.
