Word 2003 and Outlook 2003 (both SP2) versions don't match. Fix?

The version of Word 2003 is 11.8026.8036.

The version of Outlook 2003 is 11.8010.8036

Problem: Word cannot be used as the Outlook editor if the versions don't
match.

I've tried uninstall of Outlook and Word, the reinstall from source disk,
but nothing changed.

How can I get Outlook's version to come up to Word's version.

I've tried reregistering all dll files.

But they do match. Thos are the current Office 2003 versions for thos two
apps. I have exactly what you have and Word works fine. You have another
problem.

Brian,

OK, that is some important information. Unfortunately, I haven't got a clue
where to go next. All of the popular "solutions" have not offered any
relief. I really don't want to go through a full blown uninstall and
reinstall of Office. There simply has to be some obscure configuration data
or some files that are not where they need to be.

Thanks for verifying the versions.

Have you tried Help>Detect and Repair in any Office application?

Brian,

Yes, I've attempted re-registering the apps and OLE component, "Detect &
Repair", checked services (DCOM), uninstalled and reinstalled Word and
Outlook. I can find any more methods to try online. There are a lot of
folks in the same boat. They (We) have all claimed to have tried everything
we can find.

I do have another computer that is working just fine. Before I dump Office
and go through another full install, I think I'm going to do some comparison
of the registry and other obvious configuration information. I might get
lucky and see something that is out of place or missing. It's a long shot.

Do you know if there is a tool that can do a thorough cleanup after an
uninstall of Office 2003? I have no fear of the registry and I understand my
computer very well. Just wondering if there is a checkoff list anywhere of
the residual stuff that should be removed before a new install is attempted.
Thanks for the help.

The regmon tool from http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Regmon.html may
help.

No, I don't. Microsoft offered cleaner tools for earlier versions of
Outlook, but I don't recall seeing them for Office 2002/2003

There is the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility that works with Office 2003 at least. There used to be an msizap.exe that worked on 2002 but I think that the utility has been replaced by the WICU.
