I have various problems with Word2002 specially to do with with the long
time it takes to load (20 secs)

Occasionally when I copy and paste some text from a web page to the Word i
get my Firewall (Tine Personal Fierewall) warning me that it detected that
application

c\Programs\MS\Office10\Winword.exe was replaced by another with the
description Microsoft Word and asking me whether I want to accept it, which
I don't.

Does anybody understand what is going on? Could this be a virus trying to
get in? Is this normal?

many thanks

Hi Qim

For things to try to get Word to start faster, see http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/AppErrors/ProbsOpeningWord.htm

The most likely cause of the firewall thinking that winword.exe has changed is if you have updated Word with a service pack or other
update. Is that possible?

When copying and pasting from a web page to Word, Word wants to go off and have a look at the site. If you just need the text, do
Edit > Paste Special and choose Unformatted Text. When you paste in this way, Word doesn't try to access the web, which means your
firewall problem won't arise.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Shauna

I have not been able to solve the problem but at least I ahve something to
start on.

I looked for my normal.dot file but could not find it anywhere. Could that
be the problem? Where is it supposed to be?

Thanks

Hello Shauna

Please ignore my previous message. The Normal files were of course hidden.

I deleted them and it seems to have helped the problem, but now I lost a lot
of buttons and things which I cannot remember how to put them back

a) I had "WordCount" in my shortcut Menu (the one you get by pressing the
right button of the mouse and allows you to cut/copy/paste etc

b) I had assigned F12 to print the question mark upside down for spanish and
now can't work out how to do the macro again.

Help...

This is why we never recommend deleting Normal.dot but instead suggest that
you rename it. Your macros and many other customizations are thus available
through Organizer or by opening Normal.old directly and copying.

Hopefully the 'deleted' normal.dot is still in your recycle bin, or maybe
you have a backup.
If you can recover the old one, you can rename it and then extract from it
the missing macros, toolbars etc.
