I'm new to Word 2002. For some reason the Bold format does not seem to work.
Sometimes it will, sometimes it wont. What happens is I click on the bold and
start typing and it doesn't work. As soon as i type the first letter the bold
shuts off. I try and figure out the problem, but I cant, then for no apparent
reason it works! Next time though - same problem again and it's getting
frustrating. This is all happening in one document.Word is basically designed to "type, then format". Unlike, say, Word Perfect,
the codes to apply formatting aren't simply stuck into the text flow where the
cursor was when you chose the formatting command. That explains why you don't
get consistent behavior.
FWIW, if I activate a certain type of formatting, then type (NOT use arrow keys
or ENTER, or something that naviagates the document) then that formatting
almost always stays active. But as soon as you do something else, then move
back to the spot where you stopped typing, you'll often "lose" that formatting.
Are you saying that bold stays active for one typed character, then turns off?
And this is all happening only in one, particular document? In this case, the
internal document structures are probably damaged. I'd say your best bet is to
copy the text - without the last paragraph mark - then use Edit/Paste Special
in a new document to paste the text as "plain text". You'll need to reformat
everything, but hopefully it will now remain quite stable.
