Windows Fax works well enough for the occasional fax, unless you have need
of something more esoteric.
Print the document to the Windows fax driver. (You will probably have to
re-run Windows setup to add it).

The only fax messages I ever send now are to my Greek taxi driving friend
when I travel abroad, as communication with him on a telephone is difficult,
and he doesn't have e-mail. I threw my fax machine in the bin years ago.

I, OTOH, could not work without a fax machine, as my #1 client faxes me
handwritten drafts to be typed. I used to fax them back to him (and faxing
straight from the computer was never satisfactory because the page layout
was not identical), but now I email them, he prints them out (on a printer
identical to mine), adds handwritten edits, and faxes them back. This cycle
can go on for months before the finished document is produced.

The straw that broke the camel's back was junk faxes - hard copy spam. I
returned from one of my foreign jaunts to find that all I could have papered
the room with the stuff - and I was paying to print them. Grrrrr....

I get very few of those. They're supposed to be illegal in the U.S. but
after several rounds of reporting the offenders (and calling their automated
numbers to turn them off to no avail), I just accept that I'll get one from
time to time. I hadn't received any in months, but in the past week I've
gotten three, so I hope this is not the narrow end of a new wedge.
