Running Windows xp on a new built machine. I need to buy one of the
other (they both run around $30 oem) or would you get something eles?
Any suggestions?

What OEM is offering either Word/Office 2000 or Office XP/Word 2002? They
should all be offering Office/Word 2003. If you are buying an OEM version of
*any* MS software without hardware, it is illegal.

From http://www.microsoft.com/hk/piracy/oem.asp:

"Personal computer manufacturers, or Original Equipment Manufacturers
(OEMs), often have agreements with Microsoft allowing them to distribute OEM
Software. OEM software is a special version of software that must be
distributed pre-installed on the hard drive of a PC when it's manufactured
or bundled with computer hardware. OEM software should never be distributed
without a corresponding PC or computer hardware."

Office/Word cannot be installed on a mouse.

ssrlouis,
The nerve some people have, you wouldn't believe it.
Suzanne has been aswering questions here for years and she does not deserve
to be treated in such a way.
Just be grateful you are given good and solid advice.

Although the competition was fierce, between Barnhill and Mayor I'd
have to pick Barnhill as the biggest idiot. Hell, she can't even
interpret her OWN posts. Explaining to her OEM software, would be like
showing my dog a card trick...
Hey Mayor! If you're going to embarrass yourself do you have to do it
4 times in a row with quadruple posts? What's your excuse for that,
mongolism?

Even though you are posting through NNTP and not through the Microsoft
Communities (a relatively new idea), you may not understand that these NGs
*are* communities of a sort. You have barged into one you obviously have no
familiarity with. Would you walk into a roomful of people you don't know
(presumably with the purpose of asking for information) and pee on the
floor? Then, when someone reacts to this action in a normal human way, would
you respond by spitting in his face? This is what you have, in effect, done.
And you say that Graham is embarrassing himself?

And don't be surprised if
http://www.salesintl.com/subcatmfgprod.asp?0=218&1=231&2=-1 gets some legal
action taken against it. (e-mail address removed) are likely to be quite
interested in those offers.

We treat each other with respect these newsgroups. You may have
participated in newsgroups where flaming is the norm and considered a
'skill' but around here it isn't tolerated. You are currently walking
a fine line according to Google's posting terms and they do not
tolerate abuse of their terms and conditions.

FWIW, I happen to be quite familiar with Microsoft's OEM license
agreement for Microsoft Office. For certain OEM licenses, such as for
Windows, you can obtain an OEM license with a *non-peripheral*
computer hardware component. However for Office it can only come from
an OEM/System Builder and must be preinstalled on a new PC.

Additionally, if you are a System Builder then a genuine System
Builder Pack for Microsoft OEM software must be acquired through a
Microsoft OEM distributor. I didn't see "Sales International" on the
OEM distributor list. (no surprise)

Keep in mind, advertisers use terms like "OEM software" as an attempt
to explain why the offered software is so inexpensive when in fact it
is not a legal copy.
