The original install of office 2000/word 2000 had set the file location
for user templates to g:\templates.
This is the same file location as workgroup templates which is a read
only location.
The workgroup templates location also contains a normal.dot file which
is used by all users as their global template.
Users now can not make changes to the global template file, normal.dot.
I want to change the location of the user templates path, and thus the
path to the normal.dot file so that it is either under their user
profile, e.g. %userprofile%\application data\microsoft\templates\, or in
their home drive. After changing this path I also need to place a
normal.dot file in this location and stop word using the normal.dot file
which is in the workgroup template location, which I would guess can be
achieved by just deleting the normal.dot file that is in the workgroup
template location.
We have 8 terminal servers in 3 locations and I was wondering what the
best way would be to do this so that all new terminal server profiles
are set up correctly.
I have tested a logon script for existing users that works, which
includes applying a .reg file and manually copying a normal.dot file
into the new user templates location, but I was wondering what the best
way would be enable all new terminal server profiles to contain the
correct settings without having to resort to a login script.
