Every time I open Word 2000, the box pops up stating, "Word automatically saved changes to the normal document template. Do you want to load it? Why does this come up each time I open Word? It is annoying.

More than likely you probably had a computer lock up, which caused your
normal.dot template to lock up. Since it sees changes, it wants to save
them, but can't. Try closing Word, opening Windows Explorer, do a file
search for "~$normal.dot". If you find this file, delete it, then open Word
again. If you don't file this file, research for "normal.dot". When you
find it, rename it to "normal.old". Re-open Word. Word will create a new
normal.dot (which isn't locked or possibly corrupted).

Hope this helps!

Did you ever resolve this issue. I recently migrated one of my server from NT4 to Server2000. Now when IIS goes to run a word macro (which it was doing to convert an RTF file to TXT), I get the Word Saved Changes to... message. Obviously this message causes the IIS function not to work. I set permissions on normal.dot (which contains the macro I want to execute from IIS) to allow read/write by IUSR_ComputerName and IWAN_ComputerName.

There is no ~$normal.dot file that I can find. Also, it happens when I go to load Word from a command prompt window opened by IIS, but not when I open word myself from my administrator id.

Under NT I used to write protect normal.dot to help prevent the spread of macro viruses. I obviously have not done this under Server2000, but I can't figure out what is causing this message. Is Word trying to access another file and being prevented from doing so, causeing this message?
