After I mistakenly clicked yes to "do you want to replace this file with
existing file" and no to "do you want to revert to old file" is there any
way to salvage the old (existing) file?
Rick

There is no method by which I am aware to salvage that
file beyond having a backup from another location such as
a floppy disk.

Please also note for future reference that for issues
with Microsoft Word you can post in the Office / Word
newsgroup.

Providing you haven't messed around too much trying to recover the file you
should be able to get it back using this app DOC Regenerator
http://www.gmfsoftware.com/DOCRegenerator.html . I've run a few basic tests
with the app and it does work. Microsoft Word always creates a temporary
copy of the file you are working on. This file is deleted when close Word.
However just as with any deleted file it will exist on the drive until it is
overwritten. DOC Regenerator will do a search and will find the deleted temp
file but it can only go back one operation. So if you opened a file, made
changes and then saved the file, DOC Regenerator can find and give you back
the copy of the document as it was prior to that changes but it can not go
back 2 or more revisions.

As I mentioned the app seems to work and the demo will recover a document
that is up to several pages. Good luck.

Thank you, but negative sergeant - it didn't recover the file or any deleted
files. I guess there were too many pages in the document anyway.

The name of the found files is not displayed rather all the found files are
numbered with check boxes beside then. Click on the numbered file in the
left pane and the contents are displayed in the right hand pane.

Yes, I did it right. I clicked and looked at every single one of the 45
files that DOC Regenerator pulled up for my analysis pleasure to no avail. I
even ran it again with "show all hidden files and folders" and still got the
same 45 files. I noticed that the source you specify can only be your drive
(letter). My file was in a folder off of D: and I wonder if DOC Regenerator
only looks at files off the root of the drive you specify.

Hi Richard. No DOC Regenerator scans the entire drive you specify and not
just the root. Too bad it didn't help. As mentioned I've tried it and it
worked for me. I created a word document with Word 2002, saved the document,
closed Word. Rebooted. Then opened the file and made changes, saved the file
with the new changes. Closed Word. Rebooted. Then ran DOC Regenerator. It
found both the previous version and changed versions. I tried making another
change the file and closed, shutdown etc. Ran DOC Regenerator again. Once
again both versions were found but as I mentioned before it would not go
back 2 steps only 1.

Anyway sorry this didn't work for you. I have no affiliation with the
company. Just hoped it would help out. Take care.
