Word 2000 crashes when I try to insert an address from Outlook.

Word 2000 insert address. When I click on the address icon the box for the
address book comes up, but no addresses populate it and nothng shows in the
select address book field. The program generates an error to send to
Microsoft. I have gone to their page and downloaded the current updates and
patches. I believe word does not know where to look for the address book (I
use Outlook's Contacts) but I don't know how to set up this path.

Have you checked to make sure that your default Outlook profile contains the
address book service and that it is correctly configured to display your
Contacts Folder(s)?

The Outlook Address Book cannot differ from your Contacts Folder. They are
one in the same. Outlook 2000 exists in two completely different versions.
We would need to know which you are using: Internet Mail Only or
Corp/Workgroup.

That's too bad. IMO provides no ability to repair the connection between the
Outlook Address Book and the Contacts Folder. Unless you can provide a clear
description of the steps you took to disrupt that connection, there is no
solution. What makes you think that the Outlook Address Book is not the same
as your Contacts Folder? That is simply not possible.

Thank you for your help. The original problem started awhile back with a
technie who had me set up my WAB with my name in stead of using Contacts. I
have uninstalled office and reinstalled, but that does not seem to correct
the problem. You are correct about the address books being the same; they
sort differently is all.
If you have any other suggestions, I would appreciate it, otherwise I will
be cutting and pasting into word.

So...If I export my address book and save under another file name and then
delete the original file, will Outlook build a new address book or is there a
process that I can use that will make a new address book file? I should
then, in theory, be able to import my contacts from the newly saved file and
have the system restored to its proper working configuration...Right?

Then your Contacts are stored in your Outlook Contacts Folder which is being
used as the data source for your Windows Address Book as well.
IMO provides no ability to repair the address book. Try repairing the
address book in Word by removing and re-adding it using the Office

OK - it is the same list in both programs. Is the file extension pst?
Where
should that file reside in the tree? I am using XP operating system.

:

Outlook does not use a WAB.
Outlook Express does.

It happened when I first got the program almost 5 years ago. All I
recall
is
being told to create a new address book named with my name. I have
both
on
my computer a KM.wab and a contacts.wab.

:

Not right. Explain what this "technie" told you to do so we can
figure
out
how you trashed your Outlook Address Book.

So...If I export my address book and save under another file name
and
then
delete the original file, will Outlook build a new address book
or
is
there a
process that I can use that will make a new address book file? I
should
then, in theory, be able to import my contacts from the newly
saved
file
and
have the system restored to its proper working
configuration...Right?

:

That's too bad. IMO provides no ability to repair the connection
between
the
Outlook Address Book and the Contacts Folder. Unless you can
provide a
clear
description of the steps you took to disrupt that connection,
there
is
no
solution. What makes you think that the Outlook Address Book is
not
the
same
as your Contacts Folder? That is simply not possible.

Internet mail only

:

The Outlook Address Book cannot differ from your Contacts
Folder.
They
are
one in the same. Outlook 2000 exists in two completely
different
versions.
We would need to know which you are using: Internet Mail Only
or
Corp/Workgroup.

I checked the Outlook Profile and it is the manager for my
mail
and
contacts.
I can access an address book in Outlook(same icon as in
word)
which
is
not
the same as my contact list. How do I configure the
address
book
service
to
display contacts?

:

Have you checked to make sure that your default Outlook
profile
contains
the
address book service and that it is correctly configured
to
display
your
Contacts Folder(s)?

Word 2000 insert address. When I click on the address
icon
the
box
for
the
address book comes up, but no addresses populate it and
nothng
shows
in
the
select address book field. The program generates an
error
to
send
to
Microsoft. I have gone to their page and downloaded the
current
updates
and
patches. I believe word does not know where to look for
the
address
book
(I
use Outlook's Contacts) but I don't know how to set up
this
path.

:

Post a question clearly and in sufficient detail if you
have
one.
You've told us nothing.

I have done all the patches and updates to word.

Just in case you're still monitoring this thread, I had the same problem and
discovered it was a corrupt contact. I found it by deductive reasoning after
several days of frustration. When the contact was opened the file name in
the bar at the top of the window was "Unamed contact" where it would
typically be the "display as" name. Hope this gives you a clue.
