Word 2000 continually saves

Chris

I recently noticed that when I work in a Word document,
the tiny hourglass signifiying that the document is being
saved appears every few seconds. Needless to say, this
is very annoying. In addition to re-installing Word
multiple times from my disks, I have disabled Norton
Systemworks 2004, but to no avail. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Chris

Hi, Chris. Does it help if you turn off "Check spelling as you type" and "Check grammar as you type" in Tools | Options | Spelling & Grammar?

Hi,

Yes - I've turned off those features, but it still shows
an hourglass every couple of seconds. I wonder if
there's a Word utility running in the background that I'm
not aware of. I don't experience this problem with any
other program I use, so I'm really at a loss.

Thanks!

On the Tools menu, Options, Save tab, see what the "Save AutoRecover info every:" has in its "minutes" box. I'm able to manually enter 0.1 (or every 6 seconds). If changing the number to something reasonable (mine is 10 minutes) doesn't work, clear the "Save AutoRecover info every:" check box. If that doesn't work either, clear the "Allow background saves" check box.
By the way, the background save icon on the status bar is a receding floppy disk, not an hourglass. Are we talking about the same thing?
Hope this helps.

Tagus,

You seem to have found the fallacy in my thinking - I am
seeing an hourglass, so that would mean it's not saving.
I have no idea what it is. I'm running Webroot Spyware
and Systemworks 2004, if that means anything.

Thanks,

Chris

An hourglass indicates a wait state caused by some process having full
control. Saving would be one example, but there are others. Most likely
would be an errant add-in with the Norton AV office plug-in being a prime
candidate.
