Word 2000 and image links

I have a Word 2000 document which points to a number of JPEGs in a
directory. In other words, the Word document is dependent on a directory
(similar to an HTML document that has hyperlinks to pictures in a
directory). If I move (or remove) the image directory, the Word document
loads with placeholders only (and no pictures).

How can I make the Work document self-sufficient. In other words, I would
like the pictures to be embedded in the Word document. That way, I can
transfer the document from one place to another without schlepping the image
directory with it.

Select each image and press Ctrl+Shift+F9. The file size will increase
dramatically, however.

Thanks for your reply. The Ctrl+Shift+F9 works fine. However, the Word
document has converted each bullet, each section divider, and each
background pattern to little images. In other words, there are more than
300 images (small and large) in the image directory.

Do you know how I can convert the whole document in one go? I tried
"Select All..." and then Ctrl+Shift+F9 but that didn't work.

Ctrl+A, Ctrl+Shift+F9 should work, but I'm wondering why you have the
"picture bullets" and such in the first place.

Here's the sequence of events:

- Initially I had a Word 2000 document.
- I saved the doc as a web page, which generated a small HTML file and an
image directory.
- I didn't like the generated HTML code and decided to go back to the Word
(*.doc) format.
- Unfortunately, when I edited and saved the HTML file as a Word (*.doc)
file, the images did not revert back to embedded images. This includes the
(triangular-shaped) bullets, section dividers, and background pattern (all
of which were small images in the image directory).

Ctrl+Shift+F9 works for individual images but Ctrl+A, Ctrl+Shift+F9 does not
work; the images simply disappear from the document.

However, here is what did work:

Edit > Links > highlight all pictures > Save Picture In Document > Update
Now. This brought in all the pictures, bullets, and section dividers.
Strangely enough, it did not bring in the background pattern, which I had to
do manually.

Thanks for your help, Suzanne, and I hope you will continue helping others.

Is it OK to wish you good luck now ;-)
