Typing this within Firefox and Suse 10 :)

Now, how long before I mess something up?

Answers on the back of a ten pound note to the usual address please :D

Floppy has a REAL OS now ...

Get Counted

... and then you can add "insane Linux User #002" 'cos it won't be long. :D

Easy init ... :p

You're a brave man Tony ;)

What do you think so far?

So far?

Um, kind of excited. And nervous.

I have a million questions ;)

Just about to try and set up e-mail.

Or maybe install UT2004 :D

Nope. But haven't done a lot since that initial rush on Sunday.

I online (Firefox is so crisp) I have set up two e-mail accounts; set graphics res; set refresh rate to 85Hz; Installed some updates (fonts & Nvidia graphics driver).

Next things are to play mp.3's and DVD movies.

But I been busy, so, soon come.

Enjoying this thing very much so far :)

Thats good Floppys. :D

Next time I mess something up you can help me fix it. :o

Bit of an update.

I can now play all DVD's, both originals and 'backups'. Can play mp3's.

Have installed UT2004 and have played first two levels, it works well. Have downloaded Linux UT2004 3355 patch, currently figuring out how to install it, lol

Am really pleased with Open Office, it's every bit as good as MS's Office offering, there's everything I need in that package and it recoginses Office files and documents as well. And it's free, I'm quite gobsmacked.

Also, all the things I had figured out to do in Adobe Photoshop 7 I can can do in The Gimp, another free package.

There are still quite a few things I can do in Windows I haven't been able to do in Suse 10 yet, an FTP program and mp3 conversion program to name just a couple, but I daresay the software is out there, I'm still learning.

Overall, a very pleasant, if at times frustrating, experience.

All open source. Magic :)

Nice init ... :D

Just installed Suse 64bit onto my new kit ... searching high-n-low for all the updates.

Cannot get Kmail to recive mail ... :(

40C @ full load :D

Floppy ...
For your FTP program just use Konqueror ... :thumb:

mp3 conversion program ... have you tried amarok ... it is on the CDs ;)

I use amarok for mp3 playback, will it convert WAV and cda files to mp3?

Also, do you know of a temps monitor program, similar to mbm or speedfan for Linux?

Temp monitor is easy, if you use "SuperKaramba" just install 'Areo All in One' to it ... you can of course use "gkrellm" ... again, it is on Suse's CDs ... the easiest way to get all that stuff is to upgrade to KDE 3.5 ... if your interested it that, it can be done via YaST

Go to YaST and 'search' for gkrellm ... tick it & install ... you will then find it listed under 'system/monitor' ...

Now I think I got the wrong program in amarok ...

however, if you put a music CD in and look at the files, don't run it, just click on it ... whoa, look at all them files. WMA ,CDA, MP3 ... and more.

One that might interest you is Audacity ... again, it is on the CDs
