Hi XP wizards

my PC has decided to refuse to 'sleep'. When I press the button it enters
the sleep mode but then immediately starts up again. I have wireless
keyboard and mouse and have tried disabling them but to no effect.

Any ideas? Thanks

Try this:
Give it a sleeping Pills before going to sleep with some silicon water and
Shut down and see if it will go to sleep or tell a story LOL.

How is your Power Options set to?, Go to the BIOS on Start Up and see the
Power option like Wake on LAN/WAN or Other settings and Turn it OFF.
A bad Power supply or unclean current can cause the computer to Restart, so
check your Power supply or UPS is okay.

Also to get the error message(X) code which will help anybody to give you
the right prescription do the following:
Disable automatic restart on system failure. By Right click on
My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, then Click on
Advanced Tab, then click Settings Button under Start-Up and Recovery, System
Failure Uncheck the Box for Automatically Restart. .

Look in the event Viewer for any error messages (X) that can shed some
light on the causer.
To access the Event Viewer do the following:
Open a run command and type in:
eventvwr click [OK] there double click the error message to get more info
about and you can copy and paste in your next message.
HTH.

Thanks for kind assistance. The culprit turned out to be Spyware Doctor (oh
the irony - a spyware preventer acting like -um - spyware). It must
continually send out commands which wake the PC. Disabling it solves the
problem.
