help! my sister has made a movie and when she tries to
save it from the mm2 program to a CD it gives the message
that it can't read the drive. we know the drive is
working for sure.

then she tried to save the movie in roxey cd/dvd program
and it gets all the way to the end almost and will not
save the last few pictures but the song will continue to
save.

where is she at this point and what are we missing? she
has three avi files in the movie. is there something
special she needs to do?
thank you for your help.

Hello There,

working for sure.

Are you able to use any other burning software to save to CD? I know you
are about to say more on this, but its still important to know whether the
CD burner is actually working well for other programs.
then she tried to save the movie in roxey cd/dvd program
and it gets all the way to the end almost and will not
save the last few pictures but the song will continue to
save.

The answer to this depends on what you answer to thew above to some extent.
Can you play back the file that is stored on the HARD DRIVE and does it
play properly from start to finish? If the answer is yes, we are begining
to think that there might be a problem in the Computer / CD Burner
relationship.

Well, one thing you have not made clear yet is what the objective is...I
know that sounds daft, but....

Are you trying to make a CD that will play on another computer, or
Are you trying to make a SVCD or VCD for playback on a domestic DVD
machine, or
Are you hoping to make a DVD

thanks john for helping. i am going to get my sister to
start posting to answer these questions. (we are at two
different locations. (instead of me second guessing)

she has been trying for days t figure this out and i think
is at this point about to take an ax to the computer.
seriously, she is very very frusterated and if you could
help her it would be great.

i will try and get intouch with her and see if i can get
her to log on. please keep checking back for her post (she
might have left the house or something but will be back)

thanks again john.

john,

here is what she is saying...

made the movie, project plays perfect in MM2. then saved
to computer in roxio but before trying to burn, she played
it to make sure it worked. while playing in roxio, it
hangs up (always hangs up at a different place - almost
all the way to the end) she has saved, played and when
hung up deleted, resaved played again, same thing. but
stops at different place each time.

her intention is to make a VCD and or if possible a DVD.
she is absoletely sure the cd drive works because she
burned music cd.

she tried first to burn from mm2 but it said it was not
reading the drive.

thank you soooo much john for your help.

I'm afraid what you have written does not make sense. Here is what she
should do....

1) With her work (project) loaded into Movie Maker click on FILE > SAVE
MOVIE
2) Follow the wizard supplying information as needed and choose to save the
file as a DV-AVI format.
3) After that process is complete close Movie Maker down
4) Play the newly created file to determine whether the quality is what you
expect.

Roxio or any other software does not get used at this point. Assuming that
the file plays well, Start ROXIO and proceed from there importing this
newly created file. That should do the trick. To make a DVD she needs a DVD
burner and DVD authoring software...The only contribution Movie Maker can
make to that process is steps 1 to 3 above

Hello again,

I am about to hit the sack and get some beauty sleep :) Hope it all works
out well for your sister...

Hello There,

To all of you who sent emails about the website, and for any of you who
might wonder what's going on....I took an overdose of idiot pills some time
this afternoon....and deleted most of the website from the server!!! I
actually sat there watching one directory after another vanish and thinking
"that seems to be taking rather a long time" Well it took long enough for
most of the site to disappear.

The complete web site is now uploading, as it is rather large this will
take some time to achieve So please hang on...service will be resumed as
soon as the idiots pills wear off!
