When the computer is booting up press the F8 key to enter
the safe mode. you might need to hold the key down or
press it several times while your computer is starting to
get it to work. In safe mode only the basic applications
needed to run windows are working. from there you should
be able to disable programs that you suspect might be the
cause of the freeze-up. Usually large programs that take a
lot of CPU or memory like 3D games etc.. It could also be
a virus.
