Recently I purchased Microsoft Office Student/Teacher
Edition 2003. After installing the program I created a
mock presentation just to check it out. I saved the file
and when I tried to reopen the file it would not
recognize the .ppt for Power Point. In addition I can not
open any old Word documents I had, not any new ones and
when I try to delete the new ones it comes up something
about a new global template being changed. I contacted
Microsoft by phone and they had me change some settings
on my computer and now I get "Application failed to start
because ImBrowse.dll not found" I'm novice when it comes
to internal workings and I do not know how to correct any
of this. I've tried to contact Microsoft on the Internet
but I can't get through cause they won't recognize this
program as Student/Teacher with the Product ID when I
enter it into their site. Can someone help?

I would first run Detect and Repair. It's on the Help menu in any of the applications (PPT, Word, etc.)

Then I would go back to the Help menu and select Check for Updates. There's a critical patch that you'll want to install. That should resolve the issue with PPT not opening PPT files.

As for the ImBrowse.dll, I searched for it on Google and found the following
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q=imbrowse.dll

The first hit -- http://www.the-it-mercenary.com/forums/Windows98/posts/2342.html -- suggests it's related to incredimail. I would follow the suggestions there to fix that part of the problem.

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]
[TOP ISSUE - Are you having difficulty opening presentations in PowerPoint
that you just created (you can save, but not open)? -

Hello,

There's a good chance that you are running into a known problem with Office
applications and Norton's AntiVirus software.

The Norton AntiVirus plug-in for Microsoft Office scans documents for macro
virus infections in Office products. This plug-in may cause performance
issues, the inability to open files or OLE objects from within Office (such
as design templates or Graphs in PowerPoint), or the inability to install
some Office applications.

The latest information about the problems associated with this plug-in can
be located in the following KB article:
