won't print

Simple problem, but I am stumped. Sudenly, when I would hit print, the
printer icon would appear on the lower bar, and not print. I have had this
problem before, but cant remeber how to solve. The strange thing that tells
me I have a problem is the page column always has a strange number, like
"pages 18/6".

If i hit cancel all documents, it looks like it is going to do it, but it
never happens. I cannot print from note pad and I have download the printer
driver(hp 5700 series)

If I go to HP Solutions, I can scan a doucument to my computer, which
supports the idea that I am connected to the printer.

Any ideas

First, check the cabling. Make sure that the cabling is firmly and properly
attached, and undamaged. If the cable is damaged, replace it.

Go to Control Panel, Printers, and look to see that it's ONLINE and if
there's a number other than 0 underneath the printer name. If there is,
doublclick on the printinter icon and cancel all pending jobs. You might
possibly need to reboot to clear it. Once it's zero, right-click on the
printer icon and choose Properties, then choose Print Test Page. Watch the
printer and see if it responds.

You should also check with HP support if it's an HP printer.
