I want to make my desk top with XP wireless. When I run the instalation CD I
get
Device Installer Error

Windows could not load the installer for Net.

I called the hardware manufacturer and they told me it was my computer. I
took the wireless adaptor to a buddys and it installed on his computer fine.
I came back home and tried again but the same thing. What do I need to do to
get this to load.
Thanks in advance.

Bill ... did you happen to notice which version of .NET is required ?
Are there any other issues with Windows Installer or is this just
limited to the installation of .NET ?

It doesn't specify the version. This is the only problem I have ever had
with this computer.

Check the System Event log for Errors
Right click My Computer either on the Desktop or on the Start Menu and
choose Manage
In the left frame, click the plus sign next to Event Viewer
Click on System
In the right frame look for 'Error' under 'Type'
Hopefully, that will provide you with a clue as to why the Device will
not install.

What kind of wireless network card are you attempting to install ?

Sorry it took me so long. I'm trying to install a Lynksys USB wireless
adaptor. I have a long list of errors and I have no idea what they mean but
I went to application and found "WMI ADAP was unable to load the ASP.NET
performance library because it returned invalid data: 0x0" Does that help?

Bill,

OK, let's start over.

What happens when you insert the Linksys USB wireless adapter, does a
message appear stating that Windows is searching for software for it or,
does the Hardware Wizard pop up ?

What instuctions does Linksys offer for getting the wireless adapter to
install ?

Frankly, since this is [was] a new product I'd suggest you call them and
state they either assist you in getting it installed or you'll bring it
back for a refund.

1st. I put the install disk in and clicked on start. Then a screen came up
and said to put the adaptor in the USB port which I did and as soon as I
plugged it in the popup comes up and says the drivers for NET can't be
loaded. At the same time, the hardware wizard opens and tries to install the
adaptor. Then it tells me the software could not be found. I have tried to
find files on line, off line, in line, out of line , fishing line and
anyplace they might be hiding. All the people at Linksys would say is it is
not compatable with my computer, which is running XP and the box says it's
compatable. Can I run the recovery disk? I have all my files backed up.

I'm unclear as to IF the software needs a .NET Framework or that it is
simply incompatible with XP.
If the folks at Linksys claim it is not, when don't you just return it
and find a compatible USB wireless adapter ?

Does the box show which Version of the .NET Framework is needed ?

The only thing it says on any of the paperwork is that it is XP compitable
with SP 1, which I have. I'm going to try to reinstall SP 1 and see if that
does it. It doesn't say anything about .NET Framework or anything else. A
few years ago I had some company and thier son messed around with the
computer and I think he deleted some files that I haven't needed until now.
Reinstalling the SP 1 is the only thing I can think of. I'll let you know
if it works.

I have been experiencing the same Device Installer Error. First this should
not be considered a .Net framework problem. I have a Toshiba Satellite that
came with a wireless card from Atheros 802.11 Super G. We bought it in 2004
and the adapter worked until Aug 2007 or so. I then began to get this
message at start up. I have been using ethernet cable to connect, but want
to get this to work again. I have tried three different adapters, one from
Syslinks and two from Netgear. Even though the drivers are installed on the
laptop, I still get the error. I ran the network diagnostic and found that
the Realtek lan passes, but the Atheros has an invalid DchpServer ip address
of 255.255.255.255. Does anyone know if this could be blocking the
installer for Net.
