I ahve a wireless network between two XP computers. When
I try to set up a shared printer the computer shows, but
it does not show the shared printer so I can not set it
up as a network printer.

What should I do to start troubleshooting? I have
already changed the status of the printer to not shared
and then reconfigured it to share with a different
printer name.

Thanks for your ideas.

Greetings Jean,

Troubleshooting network printing is usually caused at the
local level. They are not all related to network issues.
Make sure the printer attached to the machine is working
and that file and printer sharing is enabled.

The machine that is attached to the printer:

1. Click Start, Settings, and then click Printers.
2. Click the printer you wish to use, and select it and
then right-click and choose Sharing.
3. Click the "Share this printer" option.
4. Give it a share name then click Apply.
5. Then click Ok.
6. Then click Ok.

Ensure that all firewalls are disabled while
troubleshooting. Disable XP's firewalls on local area
networks. It's only intended for direct connections to
the Internet. If you are running any third party
firewalls, make sure they are either removed or properly
configured for the network.

Then on the second machine, click Start, Settings, and
click Printers. You'll tell it to add a Network Printer.
Click 'Add a Printer' and follow the Add Printer Wizard.
