Won't boot up

In Windows XP media center version SP 3, when I start my computer, the
process leading up to the launch of Windows repeats several times. I
described it in the Unable to Boot UP thread, where it didn't belong. I
thought Windows had stopped eventually booting up today, but I see that it
still does launch after several loops.

As long as it eventually goes into Windows, I can use the computer. But I
also wonder if allowing this process to continue could lead to something even
more serious, like a complete shut down.
 
Is the system generating a Stop Error Report?

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Keep pressing the F8
key during Start-Up and select option - Disable automatic restart on
system failure.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure. Check for variants of
the Stop Error message.

Also watch the sequence of messages when you attempt to boot. In particular
is the BIOS failing to detect one or more hard drives? This link describes

there is a common issue
known as reboot looping.

it can be resolve by booting
up with any windows cd and
then initiating the repair/recovery
console.

(see option 2 on
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058)


then at the disk prompt run
the commands:

chkdsk /p
fixboot

then "exit" and reboot
without the cd.
