hello all,

I have changed my MB and CPU, keeping my old harddisk
running WIndows XP Home, and after I start the machine,
the blue screen came out.
I then try to do a reinstalltion using the windows boot
disk, after the boot have loaded the devices, and going
to start the reinstall procedure, the same blue screen
came out again...
Please help!!! Thanx a million!

Is there any way to reinstall without reformatting the
harrdisk as there are some infomations and settings i
want to keep in that harddisk?

Hi;
RLOL: This is one instance were the help you're about to provide causes the
poster to litterally hate you!

You REALLY need to retrieve some infos, picts and stuff like licences #s,
codes and key?

Otherwise disregard.

Here goes and you won't like what's coming but it costs nothing just
a'plenty of time.

You need to reset the PC >EXACTLY< as was: old mb, hdds, pcu, mem'y and
extra drives, vid.card, etc,.etc,.etc.
XP should function as before.
Now, you prepare the system for the coming "switcheroo" by:
creating a new folder: C:\OldSTUFF.
In it create as many folders as needed using a maximum of 8 letters (so as
not to create long file names), easy to remember.
C:\DOCS
C:\PICTS
C:\KEYS
and others like:
C:\VARIOUS
Using drag and drop copy your "treasures" were you figure the stuff makes
sense.
Spend enough time doing it that you don't skip/miss any of the
"recuperable".This is real investigative/detective work but what needs be...
You'll lose your eMails: way too complicated to transfer and ever REAL
experts goof that part.

Ideally I'd burn to CD also.

Remember the "FOLDER(s)". They'll remain on disk.

Shut the PC off and rebuild (again) that new PC.

Set the BIOS to boot from CD-Rom drive FIRST,
and HDD 0 as second "booter"

A complete Reinstall of XP follows.

DO NOT DELETE any PARTITON(s)
Just a complete new install.
....and Happy New Year.
Sorry about that.

Mikey

ReHi;

Another major BSOD cause.
If part of the changes involved moving from a PCI vid.card to an AGP one
then:
BIOS (again)
video options:
Use AGP video 1st.
There's a toggle for PCI/AGP.

Just something extra.

There's a shareware program called Express Assist that does a backup of all
your email which you can later restore to the new setup. (or a different
computer) It saves everything in a single file, which you would have to save
with all the other backup files like Mikey was describing. However, you have
to manually re-input all your email account information such as passwords
and servers before you restore the email. It is fairly easy to use and you
can find it with Google.

Not if you open your email program and choose export from the File
menu! And, by the way... Real Experts *don't* goof that part...

Actually, my experience has been that "real experts" don't need to make
snide comments about other people's abilities.

Do a clean installation instead.
Repair Installs do not always work, it didn`t when I replaced my M/b
last year :-(
