Received an email indicating I have won a substancial amount of money in
British pounds. I am afraid of responding in case of virus or other pirating.
Your thoughts ?
 
1. This is a programming forum. I've no idea why you'd ask a question like
that here.
2. Don't be naive. You're being socially engineered. If it's an email and
you respond they will ask for something like money, SS numbers, any kind of
private info. If it refers you to a web site, don't go there. This is a
classic hoax. Stuff like this:

It's absolutely real! And, if you reply to this message, you will have won
an all expenses paid trip around the world! Yep, that's right, even though
you didn't enter any such contest and even though I have no idea who you are
(and vice versa) and even though it sounds too good to be true, it's for
real!

Just reply to this message (with your real email address of course) and your
tickets will be on their way (even though we don't know your full name or
mailing address).
