I'm inserting .wmv file as an object in PPTXP WINXPpro.
For some reason when I put the link in the "filename"
section, it will not hold. Movie won't play and when I go
back the "filename" space is blank. I tried this with
a .mpg file (same folder location as .wmv file) and it
worked fine. I want to use .wmv file because size and
quality are best.

thanks,
Dennis

Dennis, when I select the properties of a WMP object there are two fields I
can set for the path/file. One is URL the other is to click on the Custom
field. The custom field shows another dialog with a Browse button for
locating the file (File Name or URL) to be played. This must be the one you
are talking about. I have used both URL and the File Name field to specify
the wmv file to play hundreds of times and never had a problem with it not
staying set. Does it happen with all wmv files or just certain ones?

For some types of links, PPT won't let you specify a link to a file that's not
where you say it will be. You can't specify the link then later put the file
there. The file has to be in place first before you can link to it.

I don't know if this applies to your current problem or not, but thought it was
worth mentioning.

Didn't respond because I've been out of town.

I was able to get the .wmv file to play, but when I close
the PPT file and open it, the setting in Properties for
fullScreen has switched from True to False. This happens
every time on another cpu as well. There are other
settings like stretchToFit and I have tried with this on
and off. The file is 720x480 and I wonder if this has
anything to do with it. If I play the movie without
fullScreen checked it plays much smaller than 720x480
inside a big black background. Any ideas why these
settings aren't staying?

thanks,
Dennis

There are other problems with the fullscreen setting also. I tried to use
some VBA code to set that property on each WMP object found on a slide. It
worked on the first slide but not on any subsequent slides. I found some
old posts about this and there doesn't seem to be a resolution. You can do
a google search on it and see some of the suggestions/problems.

Thanks for response. I did little research last night and
found discussion of this known problem. Solution seems to
be buy PPT 2003. Unfortunately I can't force the company I
work for to do that.
