In WinXP, using PPTXP, I am inserting Windows Media Player
object that is a WMV file. When I go into properties, no
matter what I put into settings, It will not play full
screen. In fact if I set "Full Screen" to TRUE, close the
window and open it back up, it is set to FALSE. Please
don't suggest using mpg1. This is a "Windows" codec, I'm
using a "Windows" media player, and I'm using PowerPoint.
This should work!

Yeah, it's kinda strange, huh?

Try this, it is weird, but it works for me. Rename the movie file to AVI
instead of WMV. You will get an error that says the movie is a different
format than expected, but this has the option of not showing the error
again.

Then insert the movie into PowerPoint and resize to full screen. Tell it to
play automatically on slide start. Viola.

If this works in your case, remember to thank Taj. He's the one (I think)
that came up with this way to fool Windows/PowerPoint into working
correctly.

Thanks for feedback!

Nah, didn't work for me. Changed extension from .wmv
to .avi. Tried insert as movie, but PPT wouldn't allow it.
Tried it as an object and it wouldn't play it.

One thing I noticed is it won't fill screen outside of PPT
in WMP either. Then I tried DivX player that I have and it
won't fill screen there either. I can't imagine why.

Found out some stuff, but bottom line is that full-screen
setting still will not stick in PPT.

Did find out that my movie was rendered with black image
at the sides that made it look like it wasn't going full
screen. Also found from MS knowledgebase that there are
some problems with WMP juming out of full-screen. One
problem is with dual monitors (which I have), they must
both be set to same size and same refresh rate. Also there
are some full-screen settings in WMP you can adjust.

Bottom line is I can get my movie to play full screen in
WMP, but the full-screen setting still kicks off after
movie plays once in slide show mode.

Thank you for posting back Dennis. I will try to add that to my memory of
known problems.

I was thinking about the black border, but hesitated to mention it because
it sounded like something you would have already checked. I'm glad you have
the answer, even if to know it is a known and unfixable problem.

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for

[TOP ISSUE - Are you having difficulty opening presentations in PPT 2003
that you just created in PPT 2003? -
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=329820]

Hello,

If you have someone that uses PowerPoint 2003, you might want to see if it
can be played natively (not using an ActiveX control or WMP object) since
one of the new features in PowerPoint 2003 is the ability to specify for
movies inserted via the Insert -> Movies and Sounds command to play "full
screen". If this is the case, PowerPoint 2003 might be your long-range
solution.

For those of you reading who have already upgraded to PowerPoint 2003, but
did not know about this new feature, here's how to access it:

1) Select inserted movie
2) Alt+Click and choose "Edit Movie Object" from the contextual menu
3) In the "Movie Options" dialog, choose "Zoom to full screen" in the
Display options section, and
4) Click "OK"
