I have the version 6.0.2800:1160 iexplorer and ver 9.0
windows media player, however when loading wmv from some
web sites I get a black area where the video should be
seen and then the browser crashes. I have tried this web
site on other computers running the same versions of
both "ie" and "wmp", one computer had audio only the
other worked fine. Any ideas?

It depends on what codecs are installed on each machine. They are what will
let you play a particular file in full, in part, or not at all. Usually if
you click a wmv that WMP doesn't have it will take off (to Microsoft, or
somewhere) to get it. If you have your ActiveX disabled it won't be able to.
That might be enough to make your IE crash or it could crash just because it
doesn't have the needed codec. There are sites that specialize in codecs to
download if you do a search for them or something like Download WMP codecs.
It is better to have too many of them (codecs) than not enough.
