I'm scratching my head as to why my media library still includes
entries for files that I deleted from my HD some time ago. The invalid
duplicates are from a folder, which is now empty. Both folders are in
my 'monitor' list. What combination of settings does it look as if I
have wrong please?
I decided to start afresh so deleted the old libary database file and
let WMP9 rebuild it. But after further experiments with adding and
deleting a few files (in Explorer/My Computer), I'm reluctantly forced
to the conclusion that WMP9 does an unreliable job of updating its
libary.
I had a few tracks in a folder X whose filenames duplicated those in a
subfolder of \My Music, called Y. But a couple of those in X remained
persistently absent from WMP9's library. Oddly, considering it was
deletions that prompted my post, it *did* reflect the trial deletions
I made from X or Y, in a matter of seconds, and automatically. I
actually emulated the deletions by just changing the file extension.
When I restored such a file in Y, it was quickly found by WMP's
library. But after restoring the identical file in X, nothing
happened. However, if I then made some other change to a file in X,
such as altering its filename (validly), then *both* of these recent
changes were *then* reflected in the library.
Go figure...
