I have the DivX codec and player installed. avi files work in the DivX
player. But If i try to play them in WMP it just plays the sound and says
that it ocun't download the required codec. Whats the required codec you ask?
DivX codec of course! Which I already have intalled.

This is a new problem thats arised after I updated to the new WMP11 alpha.
Does ne1 have a solution other than reverting to WMP10?

note: I don't know how to revert to WMP11 (assume the notorious 'system
restore' was never invented by Microsoft ^_~)

Install the "XP Codec Pack 2.0.6" (freeware) which can be downloaded
from here:

http://www.xpcodecpack.com/

It includes a utility to show which codecs are currently being used by
DivX and WMP. After installing the codec pack your AVI files will
play in WMP.

Thanks for the link ^^. However, I already have the DivX6.4 bundle installed
and didn't really ant to install a host of 3rd party codecs on my machine
(this usally lead to trouble down the track).

However i did find out that the AVI files in question utilised the Xvid
codec.
