I have a Precision 690 Xeon 3.0/2GB memory 160 GB hard drive and Vista RC1
with all updates installed. I am happy and working along fine when I don't
have WMP 11 open after opening WMP 11 my network connection for outlook and
all other network dependent programs lose there ability to connect. I used
the IE7 detect problem and it said that it couldn't contact my DNS server. I
checked the logs on my server responsible for DNS and it was fuinctioning
100% fine. I closed WMP 11 and after a few seconds everything went back to
normal. Anybody seen this before ?? Oh I do have two network adapters the
first is given DHCP the second is assigned an MS private (used for VMWare) I
have ran every other program fine except for this one and am impressed with
Vista's rock solid development....

Okay I incorrectly identified WMP 11 as the cause. It appears that anytime I
go to play anything IE even using winamp my system starts having the DNS
issues. If I stop playing my MP3 or CD's it goes back to normal.

Okay I finally resolved this issue. the way I resolved was a bit tricky. I
have to NIC's one is a dual port. I have the dual port running my virtual
machines(two different VLAN's using NAT) and my built in adapter connects
also to my internal network. the only thing I can figure is that NAT and
bridging on the main adapter caused problems with routing of the packets to
the correct interfaces. It was odd because my VM's continued to function fine
which to me goes to show that obviously all the packets where getting routed
to my VM's and none where making it back to my host machine. Hope this helps
someone to lose a little less hair :)
