Hi everybody,

for some reason my PC (Dell Vostro 410, Windows 7, WMP 12) cannot play MIDI
files any more. But it can play MP3 and other sound files.

When I try to play a MIDI file I get the following error message :
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with
your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your
computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning
properly."

I cannot relate this problem with everything I could have done. My PC is
pretty stable, I only use straight applications and utilities, and didn't
download or install any "fancies".

There is no sound card on my PC, but a chipset realtek alc888.

Many thanks in advance for your kind help and suggestions.

with brgds,
Dani

Have you tried to update drivers? Type Device in search on Start and choose
Drvice Manager. Choose your audio device, right click and choose Properties
then the driver tab and choose Update Driver.

If the above finds no new drivers go to the computer manufacturer's web site
and download the drivers from there.

many thks for your kind help.

I downloaded the latest driver. No change, unfortunately.

I have to carry on with the investigation.

With Best regards,

Dani

Hi everyone,

my problem seems to be solved.
I reinstalled the previous driver and, for some reason unknown to me, it now
works OK as before.
I can play the midi files.

Thank you so much for your time and suggestions.
